Cost: $2

Description: Besides the obvious novelty of Fourth of July performing on the Fourth of July, tonight's twin-bill doubleheader offers a chance to celebrate our nation's birth with two Lawrence bands whose colors don't run. The two bands will perform an all-ages show at 7 p.m. on the patio and a late show inside while DJ Cruz rocks the patio.
Archetype is gunning for a summer release of its yet-untitled third album, which integrates live guitar, drums, bass and trumpet into the versatile and soulful pastiche of producer Jeremy Nesbitt (a.k.a. Nezbeat) and the cerebral lyricism of Isaac Diehl, a.k.a iD. The local hip-hop unit is hoping a new Japanese release titled "Unfolding" (a compilation of "Bleed for Them" material and older tracks) turns enough heads to merit a trip across the Pacific Ocean. Archetype takes the stage tonight as a six-piece with a slew of new material.
After recently releasing its long-awaited debut LP, Lawrence's Fourth of July has gotten some national love, notably in the form of KEXP airplay and spot on the CMJ charts. The locally produced album (Mixtape Studios) showcases lead songwriter Brendan Hangauer's witty late-night lyricisms and the sharp musicianship of his six-piece band featuring harmony vocals from Adrianne Verhoeven (formerly of The Anniversary). Ranging from tuneful indie folk to jubilant lo-fi-in-hi-fi pop, "Fourth of July on the Plains" is taking flight with spats of regional touring and blogosphere luv.
This show is not to be confused with Fourth of July's early show today.
Note: Capgun Coup is no longer on the bill.
